A majestic remnant of the Roman era, the Pont du Gard has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985. It was built between the year 40 and the year 60 by the Romans to supply Nîmes with water. The bridge is actually a small part of the aqueduct (50 km long), which led the water from the Fountain of the Eure near Uzès, to Nîmes.
